We ALL scream for ICE CREAM! Yes, it is that time of year when it’s hard to drive past the frozen yogurt shop or resist the temptation of a fantastic twisty cone! If ice cream isn’t “your thing”, I am sure you can relate. You have one special treat that seems almost impossible to give up…whether it be something salty, your nightly glass of wine, a weeknight beer, or pizza Tuesdays….so how do we live life in balance where we can still enjoy our “treats” and reach our goals? I have found that as I continue to get lean I am wanting ice cream more often….almost as if my mind is playing some trick on me. I am committed to starting my “get serious plan” on June 15th as I approach the 8 week mark to our wedding.
I am now coming to YOU, my clients and friends, to find out what advice you may have to fight my nightly ice cream craving….you have all made fantastic progress over the last 6 months and I couldn’t be more proud. How are you finding balance between a little self indulgence, eating well, and exercising? Are you setting daily, weekly or monthly goals? Please share your success stories!
Its funny that you say that because more than ever I have been craving McDonald’s m&m mcflurrys. And I tell myself that I have met most of my goals and that I deserve this. And its better than getting burgers. These are the excuses I keep telling myself. I stop and tell myself these could be signs of an addiction. I’ve worked too dam hard to screw that up…I guess the only advise I have is to ask yourself what are you benefiting from eating that ice cream…keep looking foward and take it easy on the backward snacks.
Sorry Christy, I’m going to add fuel to this fire. And addictions are not always a bad thing, Josh. Sometimes you can be addicted to good things too, in moderation, of course. According to Prevention Magazine…ice cream should be eaten daily:
The Ice Cream Diet – Holly McCord
Eat ice cream every day to lose weight and get healthier! According to Prevention Magazine, if your body doesn’t get enough calcium, fat cells are triggered to store more fat. In a recent study, people getting their calcium from dairy products lost a much higher percentage of weight than the people on calcium supplements.
Other health benefits include: Keeps bones strong, lowers high blood pressure, lowers cravings, eases PMS symptoms, fights colon cancer, stops bingeing, cuts stroke risk, boosts immunity, and helps prevents kidney stones.
The book recommends 1 cup of ice cream (reduced calorie choices preferred) per day for women, 1 1/2 cups for men.
I think I will head to the store for some ice cream….OOOOHHHH YEAHHHHHH!
For me the key is never telling myself I am not allowed to have something. As soon as I do that, my brain kicks into “I want it more!”So, I will always allow myself to have the things I love but moderate the amounts and frequency as best I can.
